On-Street Parking

"If they there are no construction workforce parking on the streets, why is there a construction minivan doing the rounds of our streets dropping off hi-vis wearing workers every day?"

Naomi, Cammeray Voice

On January 21, 2021, the NSW Government granted approval for the WHTP and WFU projects, contingent upon a detailed set of conditions. Among these, strict guidelines related to parking and traffic management were emphasized. Specifically, the Project was mandated to:

1. Review and Plan - undertake a review of current on-street parking and create a plan

2. Provide parking - for the construction workforce,

3. Keep our streets truck-free - by managing construction vehicles, and

4. Regularly monitor and report - on compliance with these conditions

In this section of the site , we delve into each of these stipulations for the project, examining the original directives, the project's commitments, and their actual implementation (as it applies to the major Cammeray site - Cammeray Golf Course - as well as some minor sites).

How this is impacting Cammeray:

"I know it's got to be done....but its' just everywhere, non stop. If it's not parking it's something else. We've been screwed every which way "

Nicole, Cammeray Voice

There are a range of ways that the Project Teams' blatant disregard of the Minister's Conditions are impacting the community.  Here's just some of them.

  • Safety Concerns: Between trucks blocking views and our kids navigating streets transformed into makeshift parking lots, the risk is tangible. Our once peaceful streets are now a concern every time we pull out from an intersection or let our kids play outside.

  • Invasion of Personal Spaces: Beyond the noise and thudding, our streets are being treated as toilets, change rooms, and impromptu bedrooms. It's not just about inconvenience; it's about respect and dignity.

  • Environmental Concerns: Our air is different, filled with dust and exhaust. Our parks and playgrounds, once a safe haven, now border construction zones.

  • The Last Straw: On top of enduring constant noise, pollution, and unsettling vibrations, these parking issues add to a growing list of grievances. We're not just a construction site; we're a community, and it feels like we're being overlooked.
