Other Issues
While our spotlight on the site currently is predominantly on parking challenges, Cammeray's proximity to a 24/7 construction site brings forth a myriad of other concerns. This page is dedicated to shedding light on these varied issues staring with:
As our community evolves and as construction progresses, our focus will shift and expand, ensuring every issue gets its due attention. After acquainting yourself with the topics presented here, we strongly encourage you to visit the "Have Your Say" section. Stacked against us:
The realities of Exhaust stacks
Exhaust Stacks: What's the problem?
Exhaust stacks, often termed as a 'necessary evil' of tunnel infrastructure projects, play a vital role for that tunnel. They release tunnel ventilation emissions, ensuring that the air within the tunnel remains safe for drivers. But at what cost?
Emission Central: Cammeray's Pollution Portal
While the tunnel will have two exhaust stacks positioned at either end, Cammeray is set to 'host' one of them. And this isn't just a matter of 'not in my backyard'; it's a genuine concern about health, safety, and community well-being.
The cost? Our health.
Cammeray is about to have an exhaust stack erected within mere metres of homes, schools, and parks. An 18km-long tunnel with six lanes of traffic is serious business, and the exhaust from such a tunnel isn't just water vapour and harmless gases. We're talking about potential pollutants being released close to where our children play and learn.
And it's not just children. The elderly, those with respiratory conditions, and individuals with weakened immune systems are especially vulnerable to the potential health hazards of exhaust emissions. They deserve cleaner air and peace of mind in their own homes and neighbourhoods.
Filtration Debate: If not this, then what?
The project teams have a clear standpoint: filtration doesn't significantly affect exhaust stack emissions. But if they stand by this, the question arises – what's the alternative? Simply dismissing filtration shouldn't mean dismissing community health concerns. The onus isn't just to debunk filtration benefits but to proactively seek and present alternatives that safeguard our community's health.
Inviting discussion and ideas
The intent isn't to halt progress but to ensure it's done responsibly. The community needs clarity, transparency, and assurances that our health and environment won't be compromised. Let's open the floor, share research, discuss alternatives, and brainstorm mitigation strategies. Remember, it's not just about transportation efficiency, but the health and harmony of our community.

Living with constant construction
The never-ending symphony of construction
Living in the heart of a bustling city, we've become accustomed to the sounds of life around us. But being adjacent to construction that permeates both day and night? That's a completely different cacophony. From the constant drone of machinery to the weighty thuds of heavy equipment, the soundtrack of our lives has taken a distinctly mechanical turn.
Invasive dust and grime everywhere
It's not just the noise that's intrusive. A persistent layer of dust seems to find its way into every possible space in our homes. It reappears no matter how frequently you clean, taunting your efforts and making you wonder about its composition and impact on health.
Interupted sleep
The sounds don't stop when the sun sets. Many find restful sleep hard to come by with the unexpected noises that pierce the quiet of the night.
Power outages: It's like stepping back in time
Living in Cammeray lately feels like occasionally stepping back in time. Thanks to the tunnel work, our modern conveniences have been interrupted as power lines are modified to support the construction efforts. Imagine, in this digital age, experiencing 6 to 8 hours without electricity! While these blackouts aren't a daily occurrence, when they do happen, they're a stark reminder of the many disruptions this project brings into our daily lives. It's not just about having no heating in the middle of winter, it's the food in the fridge, not being able to work from home, and the sudden realisation of how much we rely on power in our everyday lives.
The toll it takes
The Toll It Takes Beyond the tangible disruptions, there's an emotional and mental strain. We're constantly worrying about the health effects of the pollutants we're breathing, the noise we can't escape, and the seemingly never-ending disturbances to our daily lives.
Your stories matter
This space isn't just a platform to vent. It's an opportunity to share experiences, raise concerns, and discuss potential solutions. Whether you've discovered tricks to fend off the dust, methods to cope with the noise, or have a poignant tale to tell, we want to hear it.
